Depth of Debts
A downloadable game for Windows

Depth Of Debts
Story: After your grandfather died unable to repay his debts, the burden fell on you. When you couldn't pay either, you were thrown into an abandoned debtor's mine-prison - where your only path to freedom is mining enough resources to cover the debt.
Inspiration Depth of Debts was inspired by games like A Game About Digging a Hole and Motherload. Both games captured the feeling of isolation, progression through labor, and the strange satisfaction of digging ever deeper. I wanted to take that core idea and wrap it in a darker, more desperate setting — where the act of digging isn't just about progress, but survival and escape
⚠️ Important: This game is currently in active development. Save system is not yet implemented. Progress will reset when you exit the game. Play sessions will start fresh each time.

I included this game in my third Indie Game Contest and for the first time the contest game down to a really tight draw between 3 games. After sleeping on it and thinking a lot I've decided that despite being unable to continue my run due to bugs I liked the game enough to still give a donation towards the project. Unfortunately it doesn't appear this game page allows for donations so I gave the donation on the game page for your game Remorse.
As for the game, I really enjoyed my time playing this game when it worked. I was also a fan of A Game About Digging A Hole and at that end of that I wished more people would try and make something in a similar vein of it.
• At first I ignored a lot of the items in the shop but as I progressed I realized that properly utilizing all of the tools made available to you is almost a requirement to be successful. In the end I didn't feel like there was any bloat or unnecessary items in the shops.
• The music and sound design was a good fit for the game. I liked that there was an option to change the mood of the soundtrack as it's such a small thing that some people will really appreciate.
• The feel of the progression was really well done although as I started to pick up steam I felt like I was progressing a lot faster than I felt I should be. For example, by day 3 I could easily earn more than $5000 in a single day. I kept thinking making the debt be more around $40,000 would be better for the long term experience of the game.
• The art style chosen was perfect in my opinion. It reminded me a little bit of Hydroneer which I also greatly enjoyed. The idea to have physical coins when selling things is a really nice touch. I also liked the feel of the lighting in the game, especially when deep in the tunnels.
• The oxygen system while initially not making a lot of sense to me did overall end up being a positive in the gameplay experience. It not only gives you as a dev another thing to have upgrades for but it also makes the tunnels/mine feel more dangerous and claustrophobic.
• The main issue that caused me to unfortunately drop the game and almost disqualify the game from the contest was a bug where the game would suddenly cut to black and reset all of my progress, putting me back in the elevator. It did it to me twice while playing with the last time being during day 3 when I was exploring the areas available to me more. I won't lie, it was extremely frustrating and if it wasn't for how much I enjoyed actually playing the game I would have dropped the game from the contest entirely.
in the end I do really enjoy the direction you are taking the game and I am happy to do more bug testing on it if you so wish. I would like to see the game become the best it can be before your official release on Steam because I genuinely think you have something good on your hands. I also really appreciate and thank you for all the hard work you have put into the game so far. I know game dev takes a huge amount of work and it's even harder to provide something people will eventually play someday. I do think you've made it unique enough that no one could in good faith call it a AGADAH clone.
Lastly, congratulations on your partial win of the Indie Game Contest!
Thank you very much for your support and kind words, this is my first money as an indie developer) and thank you for rating the game, it means a lot to me, and I hope I will not disappoint with the release of the game planned for the end of the year or the beginning of the next.
Despite the frustration I had you deserved the donation for the great work so far. Good to know it isn't technically a bug but just a simple mistake. Looking forward to seeing how things turn out! Feel free to reach out if there is an update you want tested a bit. All the best!
Thanks! Will keep posted!
as for the bug, it's not a bug, it's just that I'm an idiot and forgot to remove the hot key "R" - scene reload
Good to know it's something that can easily dealt with. It sucked losing all my progress. Glad you figured it out.
Longer review coming soon but you have a massive bug where the game resets after a certain amount of time. Sometimes the game will just reset causing you to lose all of your upgrades and start from the beginning. I was making over 5000 dollars per day on day 3 and it reset me.
